Unlike other kinds of filters, you only have to buy the Rancilio water softener once a year if recharged regularly with a saturated saline solution. Descaling will still be necessary and should be scheduled based on the frequency of use and the hardness of the raw water supply.
The Rancilio Water Softener is designed to work with the Rancilio Silvia espresso machines. Salt rechargeable water softener fits inside Silvia watertank and over the intake hose. It will also work with any espresso machine that has a water tank AND draws the water out of that tank with a "drop-in" hose.
